One of my favourite ways to get book recommendations, is to head over to YouTube and find out what my favourite booktubers have been reading - in fact, they're kind of the reason I started my blog. Today I thought I'd share some of my favourite booktubers in case you've ever been interested in joining the community but don't know where to share. I follow a lot of booktubers with very varied taste so hopefully there's something for everyone!
Naya is perhaps the happiest person I have ever seen, she is sunshine incarnate! Even if you don't care about the books she reads (or care about books at all) watching Naya will definitely cheer you up! I actually think Naya is literal sunshine.
A Hawaiian girl through and through, Naya is an avid reader - her bookshelves legit look like a library...although maybe a little bit less organisaed. She's all about YA fantasy, dystopian fiction, and adventure novels, and her passion is infectious. Every video is exciting and energetic and if she isn't able to inspire you to read, I don't know what will.
Even better, a writer at heart Naya publishes her work online for her fans to read so if you want more from her (and I warn you now, you will want more of that incredible personality), you should go check out her writing!
Hannah is so lovely. She has such as wonderful, almost shy way of talking, and you can sense the thought that she puts into her words when she's talking about books. There's something very heartfelt in her videos; there is minimal editing, her style is simple and direct, and that makes it all the more candid. Hannah is big into unboxings! Fairyloot and OwlCrate both make frequent appearances on her channel and more than once I've been tempted to subscribe after watching her videos!
Earlier this year, Hannah made a difficult video about her life and the pressure YouTube has been putting on her. It was a really honest look at mental health and the effect social media can have on her. Whilst this isn't particularly important in terms of her being a booktuber, I wanted to mention it because almost all the booktubers I watch seem constantly happy or only talk about their books. Since making that video, her content has continued to be about books, but by being brave enough to publish a video about such a personal thing, Hannah took an important step to open up a conversation that people don't always want to have.
Emma is unabashedly nerdy about her love of books, as evidence by this video about her fictional crushes!
Emma's passion is definitely directed toward characters, and you can really tell that not only does she love them, but she understands what it takes to create a well-built, believable character. Emma is a lot of fun and her videos are always something quirky and exciting.
And I can hardly mention Emma without talking about The Mortal Instruments series, she is possibly the biggest fan of the series I've ever come across.
Livie is an adorable girl whose enthusiasm for books is often displayed in her inability to finish her sentences she is so excited about what she's been reading.
One of my favourite things on Livie's channel is her series of book defacings. I know, I know, I'm praising the defacing of books - how could I?! But you have got to see how they are. She themes the around the books themselves, such as this Harry Potter one, and they become such lovely, personal pieces of artwork and literature.
iLivieforbooks is a bit of a smaller channel than the others, but she deserves all the love and support.
I won't lie, I wasn't sure whether Divya could be included on a list of booktubers considering the varied content on her channel, but she makes enough regular book-themed content that I'm including her - plus she's funny as hell. Divya is crazy smart, even if she sometimes hides behind her jokes. She actually knows so much about books, and though she plays it off ironically, she understands symbolism and imagery - hence her ability to recreate books covers...
This is absolutely my favourite series of Divya's; she designs book covers of particular genres such as instapoetry or trashy romances. It's a lot of fun to watch her create, but also really picks up on the way certain tropes on covers indicate things about the contents of the book, which is a fascinating part of literature that we don't always consider.
So there's my five favourite BookTubers of the moment, though they usually change depending on what I'm reading! Who are some of your favourites?
