10 Book to Movie Adaptions I Can't Wait For!

The infamous phrase 'the book was better' cannot be denied, but there will always be something special about seeing a book you love come to life on screen. Here are some of the book-to-film adaptions I am most excited about!

1. Little Women

One of my mum's favourite books, as soon as I saw a trailer for Little Women earlier this year, I was determined to get through the book so that I could take her to see it. I can't say it's one of my favourites but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I have no doubt that the film is going to do the story justice. The film has been cast wonderfully and Saoirse Ronan appears to be the perfect Jo. I'll be watching this as soon as it comes out, so stick around if you're interested in a book to film comparison!

2. The Turning I read Henry James' The Turn of the Screw in my first year of university and it was like nothing I'd read before. It's a novella from 1898 and follows the story of a governess hired to look after two young children after their parents die. It's a chilling, fast paced psychological thriller. From what I can find online this seems to be a modern adaption of the story so it will be interesting to see how they create the same eerie atmosphere that the book creates.

3. The Secret Garden It's been years since I read The Secret Garden and watching the 1993 film as a child is a memory I treasure. For some visceral reason, The Secret Garden really means a lot to me, so it was super exciting to find out that another film was being made. Fingers crossed it's as magical as I remember!

Plus look at this artwork...It's absolutely beautiful!

4. China Rich Girlfriend Crazy Rich Asians may still be on my TBR, but considering how heart-warming the film is, I can't exactly miss its sequel off a list of films I can't wait for! China Rich Girlfriend continues to follow Rachel, this time as a discovery about her family takes into the high-life of the crazy rich Chinese

5. The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle I can't say I ever read The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle but who doesn't want to watch a film about a doctor who discovers he can talk to animals? Especially with the star-studded cast set up to play the cast of animals Doctor Dolittle (i.e. Robert Downey Jr.) interacts with.

6. The Invisible Man

H.G. Wells classic sci-fi horror book is a reference point for many, even if few know it's origins. The Invisible Man is being adapted again, with Elizabeth Moss and Oliver Jackson-Cohen at the helm. Though this is another one I am yet to read, the description intrigues me, and whether it was being released as a film or not, it's definitely something I would be picking up. The film follows Cecilia, who receives the news of her abusive ex-boyfriend’s suicide. She begins to re-build her life for the better. However, her sense of reality is put into question when she begins to suspect her deceased lover is not actually dead

7. The Devil All the Time

Set in rural southern Ohio and West Virginia, The Devil All The Time follows a cast of compelling and bizarre characters from the end of World War II to the 1960s. With Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Robert Pattinson, and Bill Skarsgård, there's no doubt that the acting will be top quality...now I just need to get through the book before the film is released!

8. Wicked

We're going to be waiting a while for this one, but the Broadway musical (Wicked) based on the book (Wicked, 1995) based on the film (The Wizard of Oz, 1939), based on the book (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, 1900) is on it's way to becoming a film! Wicked is a stunning musical, and whilst I enjoyed the book less, it remains a brilliant story of female friendship, with inspirational protagonists and an engaging political story. I cannot wait to see the magic of Wicked told in a new way.

9. Death on the Nile

Kenneth Branagh reprises his role as Agatha Christie's Poirot in Death on the Nile, a murder mystery set (unsurprisingly) on the Nile in the 1930s. A newlywed heiress is found murdered on the boat, and with a host of people who disliked her, Poirot has his work cut out for him to find out who the killer is. I can never resist a mystery, and I've recently taken to Poirot so I'm excited to have some of him on our screens.

10. The Witches

The final book I'm putting on this list is Roald Dahl's The Witches. Dahl's books are classics for children and I read many of them when I was young. Now this isn't going to be an intellectual film, but it will definitely be a fun one - especially with Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, Octavia Spencer set to star in it.

So what book to film releases are you most looking forward to? For me, it's probably Little Women and Death on the Nile, but I've got some reading to do before most of these come out!
